In Memory

Steve Garber

Steve Garber

This poem was written by Kayla Coburn and shared at our gathering of classmates on March 31, 2012.
It is shared here with her permission.

As I stand before our old friends
To honor your name-
I want them to know that because of you
My life will never be the same.
You taught me how to truly laugh
And truly love-
You taught me how to relax in a world
Of push and shove.
The time we spent on the lake
Was so dear-
So much different than
The times we spent here.
You had reservations
Of coming back home-
But to your delight,
You were accepted by all and not just by some.
I miss your smile and
Your unique little walk-

I miss your touch and
Being able to talk.
I called you my oak
Because you were so big and strong-
Our time together
Was not very long.
You stole my heart
And I miss you so-
But I know that God's plan
Was that you had to go.
Thank you, Steve Garber, for 2 1/2 beautiful years-
And thank you, EN Class of 80
For being such caring and loving peers.

Your poem is very beautiful and I think you are incredibly brave to have been able to read it to us the other night.
